Abu Dhabi - UAE
19-23 September 2022

Founded when a young antelope led a wandering tribe to fresh water, Abu Dhabi, meaning “Land of the Gazelle” in Arabic, flaunts its deeply rooted commitment to culture and heritage in its name.

This simple island settlement has since been transformed into the high-rise capital of the United Arab Emirates, a bustling metropolis enveloping the warm, welcoming nature of Arabian hospitality. Wondrous natural sites hallmark the city alongside its evolving skyline, with Liwa Oasis in the south harbouring some of the largest and most beautiful sand dunes in the world, and the garden city of Al Ain, home to several heritage sites, settled on the foothills of Jebel Hafit.

Being a place where opportunities are born and embraced, Abu Dhabi has also grown into a center for world-class sporting events including but not limited to, Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, the prestigious Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge cross-country rally, and the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Between the land and sea, old and new, Abu Dhabi’s legacies not only stretch back to centuries of pearl diving and journeys across sand dunes, but also speak of the present. Abu Dhabi is a doubtlessly awe-inspiring city, built on a firm link to the past, and a progressive readiness for the new.

Getting around Abu-Dhabi

Getting around Abu Dhabi is easy and taxis are reasonably priced and plentiful. They can be flagged down at the roadside, booked by phone through the TransAD hotline 600 535 353 or via the Abu Dhabi Taxi app available for both iOS and Android platforms.

Street taxis are easily recognisable by their silver livery and yellow roof sign.

Many taxi drivers speak fluent English but are not always familiar with street names, so it helps to know exactly where you are going, or to have a landmark you can name nearby. It's also helpful to take the phone number of your destination with you in case you get lost.

When using a taxi, always take a receipt in case you leave something behind in the vehicle. It’s then much more likely that you will get your items back quickly, as the call centre will be able to identify the vehicle and call the driver immediately. Abu Dhabi is a safe city, so it’s likely you will get your items back.

Taxis for passengers with additional needs

TransAD also runs a fleet of specially adapted cars equipped with trained drivers and the latest technology, providing wheelchair users and People of Determination (people with challenges) safe, secure and convenient options. It is recommended to book either service in advance to ensure specific requirements are met.

Airport taxis

All taxi companies service the airport as do specially registered airport taxis. The journey into town from the airport costs about AED 70-80, including a minimum flag fall.
Passengers leaving Abu Dhabi International Airport can also opt for luxury taxis available round the clock from Terminals 1, 2 and 3.
A Mercedes-Benz Vito van can be hired with a flag fall cost, but the rate per kilometre will be the same as conventional taxis. The vehicles, which run on green diesel fuel, are equipped with an online tracking system, a speed limiter and updated GPS.

Chauffer drive services

Uber operates a luxury chauffeur-driven service where passengers are charged by credit card via a downloadable app, available for Android and iOS operating systems, which is used to place orders. There’s a minimum fare increasing per kilometre or per minute if travelling under a certain speed.

Careem operates a satellite mapping system and 24-hour call centre to match customers to private chauffeur-driven cars closest to them across Abu Dhabi, with real-time tracking for accurate estimated time of arrival. Bookable online or via a downloadable app, available on Android and iOS platforms, fares - charged by credit card - start at a base fare and increase per kilometre or per minute if travelling less than a certain speed.

COVID-19 info

Abu Dhabi entry rules for COVID

If you are fully vaccinated

As of 26 February 2022, you no longer need a test before you fly to Abu Dhabi if you are fully vaccinated.

However, fully vaccinated travellers will be required to show evidence of negative PCR test results upon arrival in Abu Dhabi to access indoor public places, including the event venue.

If you are not fully vaccinated

You must present a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours before your flight, or a COVID-19 recovery certificate.

Your recovery certificate must be dated within 30 days of departure and have a QR code.

Children under 12 are exempt.

We recommend to be tested within 48 hours before you travel to Abu Dhabi.

It is now no longer mandatory to take a PCR test upon arrival in Abu Dhabi International Airport. However, the testing facility remains at the airport for any visitors that wish to take a PCR test (cost: AED 40) to activate their Green Pass in Alhosn app.

An activated Green Pass is essential for accessing public places and tourist attractions, regardless of vaccination status.

The Green Pass does not apply to the event venue.

Alhosn appThe Alhosn app is the official COVID-19 results app for the UAE. This app is essential for travellers regardless of vaccination status.

ALHOSN provides you with quick access to:

  • Your COVID-19 PCR test results.
  • Vaccination certificate/status.
  • Various Abu Dhabi attractions that the app allows access to.

ADNOC Business Center: Entry Requirements and Covid Precautions

To enter the ADNOC Business Center, you will be required to provide a negative PCR test, regardless of vaccination status. You will only be required to test once.

Testing will be available onsite, but we strongly recommend that people get one within 48hrs of travelling to Abu Dhabi.

Wearing a face mask is required in all indoor spaces. Exceptions are made for:

  • Children under the age of two.
  • People with severe disabilities (this group must be able to provide a relevant medical report if required).
  • People with respiratory symptoms (this group must be able to provide a medical report that specifies their difficulty with mask-wearing).

Note that information on COVID-19 protocols might evolve in the run-up to the event tand we will update this information accordingly.

At a glance:

Entry to public places

Entry to most public places and attractions in Abu Dhabi is only allowed for those who have Green Status on the ALHOSN app:

  • Vaccinated travellers must receive a negative PCR test to be given Green Status.
  • Anyone who is unvaccinated must take a PCR test every 48 hours to maintain Green Status on the Al Hosn app.
  • Children aged under 12 years automatically receive Green Status without the need to be vaccinated or to take a PCR test.

Individuals without the ALHOSN app can alternatively present proof of full vaccination along with a negative PCR test result received within the last 30 days.
